Malay rights group Perkasa has hit out at Umno's Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin for accusing tycoon Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary of being out to monopolise everything in the country.
In a Utusan Malaysia report today, Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali was quoted as saying the accusation coming from an Umno supreme council member was "unfortunate".
Instead, he reported as saying that Bung Mokhtar should be proud of Syed Mokhtar 's (right) triumphs as of one of the most successful of Malay corporate figures."What is more unfortunate was the accusation was made in the Dewan Rakyat without any chance for Syed Mokhtar to defend himself.
"I take Bung Mokhtar's statement as going overboard," he was quoted as saying.
He added that the MP's statement was mere rhetoric rather than grounded in facts.
"If Bung Mokhtar wants to talk about domination, he also has to question and criticise the nine other non-Malay figures who are the richest in the country," he said.
Ibrahim added that Syed Mokhtar had succeeded based on merit and had given back to the community by building 63 mosques across the globe.
On Tuesday, Bung Mokhtar had launched a tirade against Syed Mokhtar, urging the former not to monopolise everything in the country as other bumiputeras would also like to do business.
