Former Federal minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said while she did not specifically describe PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli as ‘si Tanggang’, or a person who does not respect their elders or mother, she described him as being like other people of the younger generation who may have been ungrateful.
“I come from a generation that is grateful for things happening to you and we are taught not to bite that hand that feeds you. And somebody who is seen as biting the hand that feeds you would be deemed as derhaka (betrayal),” Shahrizat said.
“Rafizi is a Petronas scholar or government scholar and he is seen as a person going against the people who had given him a scholarship.”
She told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that in her speech during the Umno Wanita Assembly she admitted to saying Rafizi or Hafizi but denied that it referred to the PKR director of strategy.
As the women, family and community development minister, Shahrizat (left in photo) had come under intense pressure to quit her post because of the NFC scandal. She stepped down when her term as senator expired in April.

Describing the opposition's relentless attacks on National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), which operates the National Feedlot Centre, as the “biggest challenge” of her political career, she said she was never confrontational in leading Wanita Umno.
“My politics have been about welfare towards serving the poor and disabled," she said.
“I am mindful of the words I say because I check my words, However, if people may think they can berak atas kepala (defecate on my head). They are attacking me because I am leading 1.3 million members. I do not want people to think that I am weak.”
She was being cross-examined in the hearing of her RM100 million defamation suit against PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli and Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Rafizi’s lawyer, Ranjit Singh, also screened a video clip in court of her speech at the Wanita Umno assembly last year.
In it, she is heard describing Rafizi(right in photo) as 'si Tanggang', or a person who does not respect their elders or mother.

Following the statement, Rafizi had filed a counter-claim against her.
She further described the person whom she referred to as betraying the Malays and Islam.

She was testifying in her RM100 million suit against Rafizi and Zuraida over their comments made in the parliament lobby.
Describing her actions as shown, of pulling up her sleeve, as mere gestures of wanting to fight, as she described the opposition as rude in attacking her.
“I am gesturing to them that if you want to fight with me, come on or if you are ready I am ready. It is said metaphorically, it is a Malaysian way of communicating against the atrocities and slander said by the defendants.
“These are values which I hold dearly in that we should be grateful to somebody who had given you so much. I think like that.

Discrepancy in Agroscience bid
Earlier today, she was asked on the discrepancy in her statement of claim and also the Auditor-General’s Report regarding the project.
In her statement of claim, Shahrizat said the official tender for the project was given to Agroscience Sdn Bhd where her son is a director sometime on Oct 20, 2006 and that it was given after another company had withdrawn.
She agreed that her son may have played a prominent role in the tender exercise and that her husband, Mohamad Salleh Ismail, was made a director in Agroscience a year later. Salleh is charged with several counts of criminal breach of trust.
“What happened is that the whole fiasco came to the fore, I asked my husband about what happened. He told me that two companies were offered to do this project - that was Lambert Agriculture Sdn Bhd and Agroscience. However, Lambert had withdrawn sometime on Oct 20, 2006.”

When pointed by Ranjit that in the Auditor-General’s Report it was stated that Lambert Agriculture only withdrew on Nov 13, 2008, Shahrizat said the counsel would have to verify this with the NFC itself.
The hearing continues on March 18, 19, April 10 and 11 and May 13 to 16.
