Saifuddin: Soros puppet regime tactic may backfire

Allegations that billionaire George Soros has launched an attempt to set up a puppet regime in Malaysia may backfire on the BN, according to Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

The Umno supreme council member said he is more keen on promoting BN as a "product" rather than criticising Pakatan Rakyat, Soros, or human rights NGO Suaram.

saifuddin abdullah evidence act forum 2"If we show the downside of other people's product, we can't control its quality whereas we can control (the quality of) our products.

"What if Soros, whom we are condemning (now), comes up with a statement that suits us tomorrow or the day after?

"That's why I'm not too interested in attacking Soros or Suaram," Saifuddin (right) told Malaysiakini after closing the Asli-organised conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has laid the blame for the 1997 Asian currency crisis squarely on Soros.

Soros returned to the spotlight recently when the mainstream media ran reports charging him with funding Suaram and Malaysiakini in a attempt to topple the government.
PM's 'secret' meeting with Soros
At the same time, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak too had a 'secret' meeting with Soros, in New York in 2010.

NONEThis was first revealed by Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah duringdebate with Perkasa information chief Ruslan Kassim, and later confirmed byMalaysaiakini.

Commenting on the issue, Saifuddin said this revelation was proof that promoting the BN would be better than condemning Pakatan Rakyat.

"That's why I say so. I know elections are around the corner and we should campaign to win the support of the people.

"However, I'd prefer to talk about the values that BN can bring, rather than condemn others.

"If it is true that Najib had met Soros, then we shall wait (and see) what really transpired in that meeting," Saifuddin added.
