KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 — Syarikat Prasarana Nasional Berhad’s (SPNB) rail group director Kairani Mohamed today admitted that the LRT service recorded higher ridership during the Bersih rally on April 28, but he was later forced to close a few stations when police started firing tear gas at protesters.
Testifying at the Human Rights Commission’s (Suhakam) Bersih inquiry, Kairani told the panel that RapidKL’s LRT service made a profit with increased ridership recorded on the Kelana Jaya and Ampang lines.
“We recorded an increase in ridership of 80 per cent on the Ampang line and 35 per cent on the Kelana Jaya,” he said, adding that it was a good day for Rapid KL, a subsidiary of SPNB.
