TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT NAJIB'S POLICIES

By : ELAINE MAH

PRIME Minister Najib Razak's policies came under scrutiny at a recent seminar organized by Universiti Teknoloji Mara, Sabah. 35 students from various institutions of higher learning turned up to take a critical look at the government's programmes and policies under Najib's administration.

40 papers by academics were presented at the seminar, focusing on Najib's programmes and policies. The topics covered by the seminar are wide-ranging touching on issues such as international relations between Malaysia and Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as the bread-and-butter domestic issues such as the economic transformation programme, the government transformation programme, the 1Malaysia concept, the thorny minimum wage issue, the political polemics relating to voting and the 13th General Election, and a whole host of other topics.
In his speech read by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Masidi Manjun, Chief Minister Musa Aman praised Najib for the many programs that he introduced in the three years he has been Prime Minister.

"All of them are aimed at strengthening unity, improving the living standard, and looking after the welfare of the people generally, while pursuing programmes to achieve the goal of becoming a high-income nation." Musa said.

Adding his own views, Masidi praised Najib, calling him a thinker and a hardworking person. Masidi considers Najib as an open-minded person who is ever ready to listen and accept differences of opinions.

"He is willing to accept the fact that you may not agree with him," Masidi said.

Masidi praised the seminar as a public forum and an avenue to train critical thinking skill, which he said was still lacking in today's generation. (Insight Sabah)
