Umno's GE game plan - spook the Malays

YOURSAY 'This is an apparent effort to break the opposition coalition. The truth is whenever Umno is losing, they will always play the unity talk and ask the Muslims to stick together.'

Shahnon Ahmad: Liberalism scourge afflicting PAS

your sayTruth1: It's truly sad, tragic even, that an old man who has clearly past his prime and had been unwell - and perhaps still is - is dragged into the fray just before the 13th GE by the pathetic Utusan Malaysia to essentially attack the opposition, especially a PAS that is increasingly progressive and attractive to the young and the non-Muslims.

Proarte: National laureate Shahnon Ahmad unfortunately has not come up with any cogent reasons why DAP cannot collaborate with PAS.

DAP is collaborating on commonalities such as good governance, independent judiciary, equality, religious freedom, freedom of assembly, democracy. Is Shahnon saying these are not Islamic values?

Shahnon must not hide behind the label Islam and automatically label DAP values as 'unIslamic'. Malaysia is a plural country. PAS must not adopt Umno's mindset of 'ketuanan', be it of race or religion, as this will go against the notion of equality and fairness which ostensibly what Islam is all about.

Shahnon must display a modicum of intelligence and logic and outline in what way DAP policies are 'unIslamic'. If he can't, then he should desist from mouthing off about Islam as he is not qualified to do so.

Shahnon seems to be a victim of Umno's 'shit' to the extent that he is now so inured to the rottenness of its misrule that he cannot see the wood for the trees.

Ferdtan: Shahnon should just stick to his 'Shit' novel. He now talks like a conservative religious man but his book had a free flow of vulgarities. So who is the real Shahnon?

If he wishes to change, to be pious, and be given the right to comment on others, he must repent first for his use of vulgarities, which is un-Islamic.

Mahadevil: "To be accepted by the rakyat, particularly Malay-Muslims, they (PAS) should change their mentality because possessions and money won't bring happiness," said Shahnon.

Non-Malays and non-Muslims also share similar opinions, Shahnon. It is for the same reason (greed) that PAS cannot work with Umno.

It is also for the same reason that Pakatan Rakyat was formed - to fight a corrupt and an unjust government.

Umno is suffering an advanced stage of cancer (corruption). It is spreading very fast and there is no cure in sight. As a good Muslim, Shahnon, you should be telling other Muslims to abandon this devilish Umno for PAS instead.

Onyourtoes: There is too much shit everywhere. Does Shahnon look like someone spiritual? If he is, and if he is concerned with the "hereafter", then he shouldn't be indulging in politics.

He said, "Possessions and money won't bring genuine happiness." Please tell this to those who do not know where their next meal is going to come from. Sometimes the so-called spiritual people are just good in talking crap.

Bamboo: Liberalism is any time better than cronysim and nepotism. If liberalism in PAS can lead to better governance and accountability in a Pakatan government, I am all for it.

Blogsmith: Shahnon Ahmad, please take note that when Sabah and Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaysia, they had never agreed to Malaysia becoming an Islamic state and the implementation of hudud. So please don't impose your Islamic values on us who have never consented to it.

Ksn: What is the problem with PAS followers becoming liberal?

It simply means tolerance, acceptance of other religions while adhering to their religion, Islam. Is that not exactly what Malaysia needs with its multireligious population? I will call it a positive development for Malaysia, for PAS, and the Muslims.

AnakBangsaMalaysia: Why are people so obsessed with 'supremacy'? Is it not enough that we achieve equality for all?

He or she who establishes 'supremacy' will always be at the top of the pyramid, no? White supremacy, Malay supremacy, Islamic supremacy, Zionist supremacy - these are all covers for exactly the same thing: the self-serving desire of a small group to control the minds and resources of humanity.

And that is why the concept of 'equality' is anathema to these supremacists: it threatens their self-interest.

Geronimo: Every Tom, Dick and Harry who is pro-Umno says he wants an Islamic state. But have they given it any thought of what would happen to them constitutionally if such a thing becomes a reality?

Once an Islamic state is formed, all syariah laws will supercede the current common law and the federal constitution as both are of Western origin. In most likelihood, the federal constitution will be scrapped in due time.
If we go by this logic, then Article 160(1) that defines the very being of a Malay too will be dispensed with. If that is so, wouldn't the Malays cease to exist as a race, constitutionally?

Dr Mahathir Mohamad will probably go back to being an Indian and Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, a Chinese.

Wira: Shahnon wants PAS to work with Umno to do what, promote racism and corruption? Umno needs to be out of power for at least two terms for inner cleansing before they are fit to work with PAS.

Bumiputeri: This is an apparent effort to break the opposition coalition. The truth is whenever Umno is losing, they will always play the unity talk and ask the Muslims to stick together. Don't trust these Umno scum.

Anonymous #38950338: When the Christian bogey doesn't work, they switch to the DAP bogey with Lim Kit Siang pissing on the Selangor flag, and when the communist bogey also doesn't work, they switch to the Jews and currency trader George Soros.

But that didn't work too as Soros has met both former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PM Najib Razak.

So now they use liberalism. Doesn't Umno have anything else with which to scare the Malays?
