Aliran going all digital, stops press in a year

Civic action group Aliran is going completely digital by 2014: the magazine Aliran Monthly will be closed of 2013 and the grou will switch to online publication in newsletters and social media networking.
Aliran’s magazine began as a quarterly in 1980 and became a monthly in 1984. Newsstand sales were stopped last year, the magazine going by post only to subscribers.
By going digital, “the society hopes to free itself of the time, energy and funds, indeed the monthly schedule imposed to produce the magazine,” Aliran said on its website, pointing to rising costs as another factor.
The switch to digital was one of the highlights of discussions at Aliran’s annual meeting on Sunday at which the main leaders were re-elected: Francis Loh as president; Mustafa K Anuar as honorary secretary and Anil Netto as honorary treasurer respectively. Henry Loh is the new assistant secretary.
Executive committee: P Ramakrishnan, Prema Devaraj, Andrew Wong, Soon Chuan Yean, Andrew Aeria, Sarajun Hoda bin Abdul Hassan, Angeline Loh, Subramaniam Pillay, Lye Tuck-Po, Molly Lee and Chistopher Chong Eu Choong. Honorary auditor: Ch’ng Teng Liang.
