The Barisan Nasional government has spent RM12,094,707.06 or an average of RM8,284 every day to maintain the official residences of the prime minister and his deputy over the past four years.
The whopping figure was revealed yesterday by minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz in response to a question by Padang Terap member of parliament Mohd Nasir Zakaria.
Maintenance for Sri Perdana, where prime minister Najib Razak is staying, had burnt close to RM7 million over the last four years with RM1.896 million in 2008, RM1.686 million in 2009, RM1.520 million in 2010 and RM1.873 million in 2011.
While RM5 million was spent for maintaining Sri Satria occupied by deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, with RM1.129 million, RM1.130 million, RM1.401 million, and RM1.455 million spent for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Last June, Nazri revealed that RM48.7 million from public funds was spent on Seri Perdana and Sri Satria between 2006 and 2010.
Breaking down the RM48.7 million expense, Nazri said RM33 million was spent on rental payment to local authority Perbadanan Putrajaya, RM10.2 million on electricity bills, RM3.5 million for maintenance and RM1.96 million for water.
