PPP in 'pow wow' with Gerakan on seats in Perak

The People's Progressive Party (PPP) is currently in talks with Gerakan on seat allocation in Perak for the upcoming 13th general election (GE), said its president M Kayveas.

He said there were many seats the party could contest in the state but it all depended on the outcome of the "pow-wow" between the two parties.

In particular, Gerakan wants to contest in Taiping, a seat which it said was ‘loaned’ to PPP in previous elections. Kaveas lost Taiping to DAP's Nga Kor Ming by 11,298-vote majority in 2008.

"However, the final decision lies with Prime Minister Najib Razak. PPP is open minded in the matter and it is my hope that the party will get four parliamentary and 12 state seats, as we have requested," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the party's supreme council today.

Also present were PPP vice-president Maglin Dennis D'Cruz, who is also deputy information, communications and culture minister, and party secretary-general, Mohan Kandasamy.

Kayveas said PPP was fully prepared the face the GE and that party had adopted a strategy it called "Mission 510' whereby the party machinery targeted recruiting at least 510 members in each PPP branch in its effort to neutralise the opposition.

On other matters, Kayveas said PPP's national congress would be held on Dec 2 at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
