Members of Parliament are now banned from making sexist statements during Dewan Rakyat proceedings following the latest amendments to the Standing Orders 36 (4).
Prior to this, the rule reads "It is an offence for members of the House to use impolite (rude) language".
The new amendments sought to include the phrase "or make sexist statements" at the end of the sentence.
The amendments were decided by the bi-partisan House Committee and will be in effect from today.
