DAP lodges police report against Najib for sedition

The report was lodged over the prime minister's statement which is deemed dangerous to the Malays, Muslims and the DAP.
PETALING JAYA: A police report was lodged by the DAP against Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak at the Tun HS Lee police station in Kuala Lumpur for making seditious statements.
“I lodged a police report against Najib because his statement is seditious, slanderous and dangerous to the Malays, Muslims and the DAP. The police are investigating the case under the Sedition Act,” said Tengku Zupuri Shah Raja Puji, who is also Pahang DAP deputy chairman when contacted today.
Najib statement was reported in an English daily, Sunday Star, which implied that Pakatan Rakyat would cause Islam’s downfall in its report titled “Najib: Vote Barisan for a far better future”.
“A vote for PKR will destroy the aqidah while a vote for PAS will only result in disunity among Muslims, Prime Minister [Datuk Seri] Najib Tun Razak says. As for DAP, a vote for them will see Islam being oppressed,” the newspaper reported Najib as saying during his visit to Terengganu on Saturday.
Tengku Zupuri, who is an engineer, said that Najib’s statement is false. “DAP is a registered organisation… ”
In a related development, DAP’s national publicity assistant secretary, Zairil Khir Johari, criticised Najib for making such a statement that was “an attempt to ignite the fire of rascism”.
He said the statement contradicted Najib’s 1Malaysia campaign and the moderation spirit that was the theme of the Maulidur Rasul celebration last month.
“Where is the spirit of wasatiyyah or moderation [which] Najib himself had spoken about?
“Slogans such as wasatiyyah and 1Malaysia are clearly empty slogans that Najib himself does not practise because he made an unfounded and malicious allegation without proof,” said Zairil, who is also Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary in a press statement.
Contrary to Najib’s allegation, Zairil said the DAP-led Pakatan Rakyat government in Penang had increased allocation for Islamic affairs.
“Land valued at RM80 million has been allocated for the construction of a seven-floor Syariah Court in Penang that would replace the current two-storey building that houses the court. In addition, the state government has been actively promoting the halal industry, has acquired land to enlarge Muslim graveyards, and has increased allocations for mosque staff and religious schools.”
Zairil added that even the High Court had clarified that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is also DAP secretary-general, is not anti-Muslim or anti-Malay as suggested by Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.
The newspaper was found guilty of slandering Lim and fined RM200,000 in December 2011.
