SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has been elected Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) election director while Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed his deputy.
The decision to appoint them to the posts was made unanimously at a meeting of the Selangor BN supreme council chaired by Najib in Kuala Lumpur last night, according to a statement issued by Selangor BN secretary Datuk Mohammed Idris Abu Bakar here today.
"The Selangor BN leadership welcomed the decision and it will further spur the BN's quest to recapture Selangor from the opposition in the upcoming general election (GE)," he said.
Mohammed Idris said the preparedness of the component parties was at an optimum level and that they were ready to swing into action during the campaigning period. He said the election machinery in fact had already started its work at district polling stations.
"A mock election will be held soon to familiarise the entire election machinery on what needs to be done," he said, adding that the machinery at the polling stations level would shoulder most of the responsibility to ensure the desired outcome.
He said audits would be done at all levels to fine tune the machinery before the GE comes. He added that Selangor BN was very optimistic of wresting back Selangor from the opposition.
Meanwhile, in TANJONG KARANG, Selangor BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the appointment of Najib as Selangor BN election director would further help the BN towards recapturing Selangor from the opposition.
"We will give our full support and cooperation to the prime minister who has brought much transformation for the country. This shows how important Selangor is," he said.
