Mohd Ali: Removing PM’s banner undemocratic

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 4 – Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam has described the removal of banners depicting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak extending Chinese New Year greetings to the people in Penang as an undemocratic act.

He said as the prime minister was elected by the people, such act was tantamount to disrespectful of the principles of democracy embedded in the constitution.

“Whatever their excuse, the action is rude and symbolises the arrogance of the DAP-led state government,” he told reporters at a goodwill programme at Surau Al-Khauthar in Sungai Pinang here last night.

He was commenting on the Seberang Perai Municipal Council’s action to remove Chinese New Year banner wishes from the prime minister for those who had put them up had reportedly not applied for a permit.

Mohd Ali said in Malacca, the opposition put up festive greetings banners or posters without having to apply for permits.

“If you want to make festive greetings we have no objection. So, we are puzzle with this unwarranted attitude of showing power in an improper place,” he said.  – Bernama
