Political analyst Datuk Professor Dr Zainal Kling said the appointment could also boost the sentiments of the BN component party leaders to redeem the loss in the 2008 general election (GE) when the opposition won 35 of the 56 State Assembly seats contested.
“The appointment clearly shows that the BN is keen to regain Selangor as the state is among the most developed and an economic focus in Malaysia and they will go all out in the GE this time,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.
Zainal, who is also the Head of the Heritage and Socio-culture History Cluster of the National Professors Council, added that Najib’s appointment would also make the people of Selangor feel that they were getting special attention from the prime minister.
Another political analyst, Professor Zainal Abidin Borhan shared Zainal’s view when he said it could motivate the Selangor BN leaders in facing the opposition. — Bernama
