KUALA LUMPUR: Private investigator P Balasubramaniam, who left the country for India after making a statutory declaration (SD) implicating the prime minister over the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, has returned to Malaysia.
PI Bala, as he is popularly known, arrived today at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to a hero's welcome.
Soon after touchdown, he swore on the Hindu holy book, the Bhagavad Gita, stating that his first SD made on July 1, 2008, was the "true SD" and the second one, the next day, was made under duress.
He added that he had to issue the second SD because of the stress he faced the night after he issued the first SD.
He said he will call a press conference later to disclose the matter “inch by inch".
Bala, the key witness in the Shaariibuu murder trial, had linked then deputy prime minister Najib Razak to the murder in his first SD. However, he retracted the passage regarding Najib in the second SD the next day.
Soon after that, Bala and his family left the country.
