Anwar broke promise on Semenyih, says PSM

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is disappointed that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has not kept his word to defer announcing the Semenyih candidate until negotiations are complete.

PSM secretary general S Arutchelvan when contacted said PKR’s decision to field its own candidate Hamidi Haasan in the state seat was unfortunate.

arutchelvan psm interview 010208 banner”By doing this, they are helping BN, so we think this is a very sad episode.

“They don’t know who their allies and enemies are. And this would have a lot of impact in other seats (being negotiated) as well,” he said.

He said Anwar had promised that he would not announce the Semenyih candidate yet.

“When we had a meeting with Anwar, he was telling us that they would defer the announcement until they find a solution.

“It looks like by announcing Hamidi for Semenyih, they are basically closing down the negotiation for Semenyih. Until (tonight’s announcement), we were supposed to be negotiating.

”The party had decided that I can stand under PKR’s banner for Semenyih, so the initial claim that PSM can stand under PKR, has now proven to be false.

NONE”Which shows they cannot keep to their word,” said Arutchelvan.

He said his party will meet tomorrow and decide whether they will field their own candidate in Semenyih and other seats in light of the latest development.

“Tomorrow night we will be meeting with our members to decide our final position on this GE. We will issue a statement after the meeting,” he said.

PSM has been in loggerheads with PKR over the Semenyih and Kota Damansara seats because they insist on the socialist party contesting under PKR’s logo as they had done in 2008.

PSM however argued they had a right to use their own logo since unlike the last general election, the party’s registration has finally been approved by the Registrar of Societies.
