Gobind Singh Deo has been very vocal in championing issues of public interest and political concerns. He was suspended from Parliament for 12 months in 2009 after questioning the then Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over the murder of a Monglian woman named Altantuya Shaaribuu. His parliamentary allowance was also denied for a period of 12 months. However, the High Court Kuala Lumpur later declared that Parliament has no power to deny his rights to receive salary and allowances during the period of his suspension.
