Our time has come, make history on May 5

YOURSAY 'This will be the day we rid this country of corruption, cronyism, nepotism, bigotry and utter lawlessness.'

Nominations for GE13 on April 20, polls on May 5

your sayLittleGiant: Sunday, May 5, 2013 will be a day of reckoning for the country's electorate of more than 13 million to choose a government that all Malaysians can be proud of - a government that truly believes in leading by example, having leaders of unblemished character and integrity.

Voters should choose a government that respects the sanctity of the country's constitution and laws and has the capability to discharge its duties with utmost transparency and accountability as its fundamental values.

The paramount consideration that voters across the nation should keep in mind is to elect a government whose leaders can fight corruption fearlessly and have the conviction to bring corrupt leaders to face justice at any cost.

To put it simply, voters should not be afraid to kick out the regime of BN leaders who have abused their position and power for the past five decades.

Vote with care and diligence for a better Malaysia. GE13 is a golden opportunity not to be missed.

Raja Chulan: It is really funny to watch the ‘live' telecast of the Election Commission's announcement of nomination and polling dates after their so-called special meeting.

Their acting was indeed great, they can even be nominated for the Oscar awards. This drama by EC to make us believe that they were the ones who actually decide the nomination and polling dates was comical indeed.

The truth is the dates were decided by the PM. The two hours or so spent by the EC at their special meeting were most likely a chatting and ‘makan-makan' session.

The days when the EC was independent are long gone. Today, the EC is a mere tool of Umno and the PM.

Ferdtan: May 5 will be the day Malaysians of all colours and faiths come together for a momentous purpose of kicking a corrupted regime called BN.

We shall choose a government where we can be proud to call our own. We shall stand tall and identify ourselves proudly as true Malaysians, as we should.

Anak Perak: I am a Malaysian working overseas and I will be flying back over the weekend just to vote. The only reason I am doing this is to vote out the corrupt politicians.

So I urge all other fellow Malaysians working overseas to make their way back to Malaysia to vote.

Simplesouler: For those whom have never registered to vote, you might like to check on the EC website to see if you have been illegally registered.

So far I have known three of my friends who are surprised to find their names and IC numbers listed on the EC website without their knowledge. If you registered, then go and vote when the day comes.

Domcr2001: My calculator cannot register the RM400,000,000 figure - the amount which the EC said it will spend for GE13. There are 13,200,000 voters. If you do a quick calculation, one voter will cost the EC RM3,000.

Now normally, we see only a 70 percent turnout so the amount spent per voter is even higher. At least, with such an unreasonable cost, everyone should better go and vote.

Faz: Let us usher in new era. Voters shall be voting for old hands with good track records as well as potential future leaders to manage Malaysia.

Those with bad records should be discarded by voters if chosen to stand. The GE is about choosing the best lawmakers for the nation and not political clowns.

Ourvotesdecide: We too will vote for the first time and we are very excited to vote for any Pakatan Rakyat candidates in our areas because 50 years is more than enough for Umno-BN.

Ech: I have just booked my flight for May 2. It's time for ‘country cleaning'.

Justicebao8: To all Malaysiakini readers, please take note. The election process is not in favour of Pakatan due to thegerrymandering, therefore Pakatan needs a landslide win to capture Putrajaya.

It's not impossible, but every 'agent of change' must work extremely hard to topple BN and let us ensure that May 5 be a new chapter for Malaysia in the history book.

Stingray: Calling all eligible voters, vote on May 5. Do not be afraid. Do what is right. Be brave. Tell your loved ones to vote too. This is our chance to have our say.

Vijay47: Since I am in the Federal Territory, I have only one vote to cast. But come May 5, it will be one vote I cast with pride for whoever represents Pakatan and the vote I gleefully cast against Umno.

Tiru: The time has come for us to make a difference. Let's do our part in bringing about change. All the talk will come to nothing if we don't play our role in this.

Gives us all a chance to be part of history. The goons have changed the principles of our founding fathers. Now let's put it right again.

Finallychangeisgoingtocome: May 5 will be a very, very auspicious day - the day we rid this country of corruption, cronyism, nepotism, bigotry and utter lawlessness. Please pray and cast your vote with truth, love and justice in your heart.

For five years, all commentators in online media have said their piece, argued against each other, and even hurled abuses.

It is time now to bury all this and bring the change that we all yearn for, for a beautiful Malaysia, which was crafted by Tunku Abdul Rahman and Hussein Onn but hijacked since then. Allahuakbar, Amen, Aum. - Malaysiakini
