AirAsia X CEO slammed for describing Utusan as racist

Several Malay rights and Muslim groups have slammed AirAsia X chief executive officer Azran Osman Rani, for describing Utusan Malaysia as a "racist newspaper" and threatened to pull off the airline's advertisements from the Umno-owned daily.

NONEAzran Osman (right) had described Utusan as racist for its controversial front page headline 'Apa lagi Cina mahu' (What more do the Chinese want) last week and added that the Malay rights group Perkasa is narrow-minded and had caused the Malays to be left behind.

Perkasa acting president Abdul Rahman Bakar described Azran Osman as a corporate figure who has forgotten himself, and who is "arrogant" for going against Utusan Malaysia and Perkasa.

According to Abdul Rahman - as quoted by Utusan Malaysia today - that if not for the daily, Azran Osman would not have been placed in a high position as he is now.

NONEMeanwhile, former PKR Youth exco member Abdul Ghani Haroon says Azran Osman does not remember his roots and is forgetful of the country's history and struggles.

"To Azran Osman, I propose that he reads history and understand how Utusan Melayu becameUtusan Malaysia and also its roles to develop the Malays."

Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia chief Nadzim Johan (left) said no matter how high Azran Osman's education was, it is not proper for him to criticise Utusan Malaysia as the paper is protecting Malay rights, the Umno-owned daily quoted him as saying.
However, Azran Osman received support from DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua, who urged the people to back the CEO againstUtusan Malaysia.

“There is no place for Utusan Malaysia in the future of our nation. It is Umno’s mouthpiece that continued to slam those, like Azran Osman, who defended the rights of Malaysians of different races.

“Let us reject the racist Umno and Utusan Malaysia!” he posted in his Facebook webpage today.
