Anwar: I want Dr M to watch TV3 on May 6

'This is our battle, our victory, and no one has the right to steal and plunder,' says Anwar to about 10,000 supporters on the night before election 2013.

KUALA LUMPUR: Before a crowd of about 10,000, Anwar Ibrahim pledged that Umno will meet its demise at the ballot box and said that he wanted his nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad to watch the TV3 news on May 6.
In his final address to the capital city before the polls, he said: “I don’t want Mahathir [Mohamad] to die, I just want Mahathir to watch TV3 on May 6.”
His remark drew applause and laughter from the crowd. Anwar was referring to media reports that claimed he wished to see his long-time rival dead, which the opposition leader later denied.
“God willing, on May 6 we will form the new government. And on May 7, I shall announce the drop of petrol prices. For this month, this May, our priority will be education… access to quality education,” he said.
Thousands of Malaysians thronged Kerinchi by 6pm this evening in a last stand of unity before casting their votes tomorrow, after five long years since the 12th general election which saw BN lose its customary two-thirds majority for the first time in Malaysian history.
The teeming crowd tonight waved party flags, honked their cars and blew air horns in support of Anwar and his daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, on what could possibly be Anwar’s final night as the country’s opposition leader.
Anwar, however, was careful to pepper his predictions of a Pakatan Rakyat win with the word “Insha Allah” (God willing) throughout his ceramah, although he couldn’t resist wowing the crowd with his vision of a country under his helm.
“Our policy will be for free education, and all schools will be given full government aid…and my friends, by the end of this month, you will see the end of your PTPTN (National Higher Education Loan Fund) debts,” he vowed, to cheers and thunderous applause from the enthralled audience.
“What does Najib say to that?” he asked, to which the crowd gamely responded in unison “Bankruptcy!”
“Tomorrow, we bankrupt Umno!” declared Anwar.
But he warned the Election Commission of any hanky panky during polling day, vowing that should the EC be found guilty of abusing its powers, the officers would be dragged to court.
“I strongly advise you to follow the laws and regulations. If you violate the constitution and the law and attempt to cheat in this general election, we will catch you, bring you to court and you will go to prison,” he said sternly
Anwar ended his ceramah with a plea for the voters here to help Nurul Izzah retain her Lembah Pantai seat, in the face of an uphill battle against caretaker federal territories minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin.
“Since we know there will be fraud, we must remain vigilant. Everyone must go vote early and after that, keep watch at the polling stations. Stand guard, Chinese, Indians, and Malays, stand guard, please,” he said, before leaving the stage to loud cries of reformasi.
Good turnout at Kelana Jaya
Meanwhile in KELANA JAYA, organisers said about 50,000 people turned up at the Stadium MBPJ to hear the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat leaders’ final ceramah session.
“Teach the Selangor BN chief Najib Tun Razak a lesson by sending him to the opposition bench,” said Subang Jaya state seat aspirant from DAP, Hannah Yeoh.
Among those present along Yeoh were Pakatan leaders such as R Sivarasa, Tony Pua, Gobind Singh Deo, Haniza Talha, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Parti Sosialis Malaysia chairman Nasir Hashim.
Nasir even recited a poem in Malay, citing how the people have risen to restore democracy in the country.
“We elected representatives are just caretakers of the mandate. The power lies in you,” he said.
They also managed to collect about RM200,000 as public contribution.
