Blogger Papagomo released after three days in remand
Pro-Umno blogger Papagomo has been released by the police today, having completed the three-day remand order on him.
This was confirmed to Malaysiakini by Federal Commercial Crime Investigations Department director Syed Ismail Syed Azizan.
"We have decided to release the blogger as we want to fine-tune the investigations further. We obtained a three-day remand order for Papagomo on Wednesday and it ends today," Syed Ismail said.
"Yesterday, we released another (pro-PKR) blogger King Jason, after his two day remand order expired," he said.
The two were picked-up separately on Tuesday, with King Jason apprehended in Kampung Jawa in Klang while Papagomo was arrested at a petrol station in Danau Kota in Kuala Lumpur.
A police report was lodged against Papagomo by a PKR official after the blogger in his posting called for the Chinese to be harmed. King Jason was arrested for his posting, also said to be along racial lines.
They were remanded on Wednesday, with Papagomo being held under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, while King Jason was detained under the same section of the Act and under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
Section 233 of the Multimedia Act relates to improper use of network facilities and service, an offence punishable with a fine of RM50,000 or a year's jail or both, while Section 500 of the Penal Code is on defamation, which is punishable with two years' jail or a fine or both.
