PETALING JAYA (May 29): The late N. Darmindran's wife claimed today she had to bribe a police officer to allow her to see her husband's body.
J Marry claimed she was called to bring five packets of 'nasi ayam' (chicken rice), five cans of 100Plus and three packets of cigarette on May 19.
"Since her husband's arrest on May 11, Marry was not allowed and not told of the husband’s whereabouts until May 19.
"Only on the 19th, she received a call from a police officer in D9 (serious crime branch) of the IPK (state police headquarters) KL who asked her to bring all these things,” lawyer G Sivamalar told a press conference on behalf of Marry at the PKR headquarters, today.
Sivamalar claims Marry can identify the police officer and added that the family was considering lodging a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the episode.
Marry confirmed also giving a police statement on the matter yesterday.
Darmindran, who had been arrested on May 11 after being involved in a fight, had died in the KL police headquarters lockup on May 21.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah had reportedly said the 31-year-old had died as a result of breathing difficulties.
However, police later classified the case as murder after a consultant pathologist at Hospital Kuala Lumpur confirmed that Darmindran had died of multiple blunt force trauma.
The family is still waiting for the authorities to take action on the police officers responsible despite post-mortem report confirming that Darmindran had died due to "diffuse soft tissue injuries due to multiple blunt force traumas."
