Cops begin probe into ex-judge's speech

The Dang Wangi district police headquarters is investigating several police reports against the reported contents of speech by former Court of Appeal judge Mohd Noor Abdullah.

An investigating officer has also contacted Malaysiakini to set an interview with its reporter who had covered the event.

NONEThe latest police report was lodged by veteran DAP lawmaker and lawyer Karpal Singh at the same police station today.

Karpal said in his report that Mohd Noor had use language which was “extremely provocative and amounts to sedition”.

He claimed that Mohd Noor had committed an offence under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which punishable on conviction by a fine not exceeding RM5,000, a maximum three year jail term or both.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Karpal said the speech “practically amounts to pitting Malays against Chinese”.

At a forum themed ‘GE13 post-mortem: Muslim leadership and survival’ last Sunday, Mohd Noor had warned of a ‘Malay backlash’against Chinese ‘betrayal’ in the 13th general election.

This had triggered strong reaction from opposition leaders, including PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim who likened Mohd Noor to the Ku Klux Klan and Adolf Hitler.

However, the forum organisers have since claimed that the speech was selectively reported.
Mohd Noor to appear on TV
Meanwhile Bernama reported that Mohd Noor is scheduled to appear in interview programme "Helo Malaysia" on Bernama TV at 10 tonight via Astro Channel 502 to discuss issues relating to the Federal Constitution.
He will be appearing with Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association president (PPMM) Zainul Rijal in the one-hour interview which will be moderated by Dahlan Maamor.
The programme is entitled 'The philosophy of the Federal Constitution which guarantees equality and justice for all races in Malaysia'.
Mohd Noor is also expected to comment on his earlier statements, among which related to the position of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJKs) or national-type schools according to the constitution.
