JOHOR BARU, May 8 — The Johor police have slammed a social network account holder who alleged that four police trucks were deployed to ferry foreigners as phantom voters in Batu Pahat near here during the 13th General Election (GE13) on Sunday.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said a special team was set up to investigate the allegation which was viewed as defaming the force.
He said, in reality, the police trucks were ferrying anti-riot police personnel to monitor security.
“I advise such individuals to cease defaming the force and not abuse the social media when the police are carrying out their responsibilities to ensure peace in the country,” he said in a media conference here today.
To protect the police image, Mohd Mokhtar said a report was lodged in Batu Pahat to facilitate investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, the state police chief advised the people not to be influenced by a group which was attempting to organise illegal assemblies to disrupt peace in Johor.
“Several groups have been found to hold illegal assemblies and they have been warned not to create unrest. District police chiefs have been told to take stern action against such errant groups,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar said 1,232 police reports had been lodged in connection with various allegations during the GE13.
Twelve people were detained to facilitate investigations during the period, he said. – Bernama
