Judge recuses herself from hearing Nik Nazmi's case

Petaling Jaya Sessions Court Judge Rozina Ayub has recused herself from presiding over a case involving Seri Setia state assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

The case was up for mention today, which saw the judge declaring that her family had ties with Nik Nazmi's family.

Following this, Sessions Court judge Hayatul Akmad Abdul Aziz took over and announced that the hearing would commence on Aug 26.

Nik Nazmi has claimed trial to violating the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA) during a rally in Kelana Jaya on May 8.

He is accused of being the organiser of the event, which saw thousands flooding a stadium to protest against electoral fraud.

Police claimed that he had violated the PAA when he didn't provide a notice, 10 days prior to the event.

Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi said that his lawyers would attempt to strike out the charge at the High Court soon.
