The police have advised people against participating in the "Blackout 505" gathering at Kampung Bukit Katil Square on Friday, saying it is illegal for not having met the required 10 days' prior notice.
Melaka Tengah District police chief ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman said the notice for the gathering was given to them on May 17 and did not fulfil the condition under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
He asked the organisers of the gathering to postpone it.
The organisers had also failed to furnish a letter of approval from the land owner for the gathering to be held at the venue, he said at a news conference.
Salehhudin also said the police are investigating a gathering held in front of the Stadhuys building in Jalan Gereja on Tuesday night, calling for the release of student activist Adam Adli.
Adam was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making seditious remarks during a forum by Suara Anak Muda Malaysia on May 13, which involved a call for massive street rallies to express unhappiness over the country's electoral system and results of the 13th general election.
Salehhudin said the probe was initiated because the gathering violated the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
"The police did not receive any notice of the gathering," he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor acting police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said in Shah Alam Selangor police have yet to be notified of a Pakatan Rakyat gathering planned in Petaling Jaya on Saturday.
He said the organisers must notify the police 10 days before the event.
"We urge all parties to respect the law. What is important is peace and public safety. We will not issue any warning," he said.

Either that 'chief' is too stupid to understand the entire PAA2012, clause 9 or never bothered to understand at all?
ReplyDeleteUse clause 7 to arrest all gate-crashers/ problem makers or concentrate more on clause 8?
