National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) and its chairperson Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail have filed a defamation suit against Parti Keadilan Rakyat director of strategy Mohd Rafizi Ramli and Malaysiakini over a statement in relation to loans to purchase KL Eco City properties.
Mohamad Salleh (right) and NFC, as the second plantiff, had filed the suit on June 3, this year at the High Court registry via Wan Shahrizal, Hari & Co, naming Mohd Rafizi who is also the member of parliament for Pandan, and the owner of news portal Malaysiakini, Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, as defendants.
Today, the suit was fixed for case management before High Court deputy registrar Siti Nur Shafrida Hashim.
Mohamad Salleh’s counsel Wan Shahrizal Wan Ladin told reporters that the court had given 14 days for Mohd Rafizi and Malaysiakini to file their appearance in court.
“The 14-day period will lapse by July 2, failing which the plaintiffs will file for a judgment in default against the defendants,” he said, adding that the plaintiffs had served the writ of summons to the defendants on June 18.
He said the court set Aug 19 for case management.

Rafizi's press conference
Mohamad Salleh in his statement of claim said that on March 7 last year, Mohd Rafizi (right) had giving a defamatory statement at a news conference held at the PKR headquarters over the purchase of KL Eco City properties and the news was subsequently published in Malaysiakini on the same day.
He claimed that the suit was for damages suffered by him as a result of the lies, misleading information, exposure of confidential banking information and slander by the defendants.
Mohamad Salleh is seeking general, exemplary and aggravated damages, interests, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.
He is also asking for an injunction to restrain the defendants from further misleading and deceiving the public on the loans issue.
