Release photo of 'wanted' cop, MP tells police

The police must release the photo and identity of the missing police officer, who is the fourth suspect in the death-in-custody case of N Dhamendran, said the DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.

Lim added that this would enable the public to help the police in tracking down the suspect, who is said to be an inspector.

“The Oriental Daily News yesterday reported that police in Shah Alam had held a press conference to reveal the photographs, names and addresses of three suspects in a murder case.

“So I urge the police to do the same in the case of N Dhamendran by publishing the police officer’s photo in all the newspapers.

NONE“The photo, name, and address of the inspector should also be displayed at all police stations in Malaysia as he is now a wanted man."

Lim (second from left) said this after lodging a police report at the Jinjang police station this morning.

On June 5, three police personnel, a sergeant and  two corporals, were charged with the murder of police detainee Dhamendran, who was found dead in lockup last May 22.
The accused, Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman, 45, and Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32, are charged with committing the offence between 12.20pm and 2.50pm on May 21, 2013, at the Special Investigations Division (D9), Level 7 of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

However, the fourth suspect went missing and so was not able to be charged alongside the others.
Double standards
Should they fail to publish the suspect’s photo, Lim stressed that the police force will give the impression that they biased in cases involving one of their own.
“If the police refuse to do so, they will seem not transparent and appear to be practicing double standards,” he said.
NONEHe also urged the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) to list one more term of reference to be studied by the task force on police custodial deaths.

He said the task force must investigate why, in the early stages of Dhamendran’s death, police provided a different cause of death to that later found by the coroner.

“I will write an offical letter to urge the EAIC to add one more term of reference - to investigate why police initially said Dhamendran’s death was due to breathing difficulties.”

However, post-mortem carried out at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) stated Dhamendran died as a result of 'multiple blunt force trauma'.
