Soi Lek lets fly at 'forgetful' Donald Lim

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek today said that party vice-president Donald Lim appeared to have forgotten that the latter had once supported the party's decision to reject appointments to government positions.

In a strongly worded press release today, Chua said that Lim was part of two annual general meetings (AGM) and central committee meetings which endorsed the decision.

"For the record, Lim had attended all the above meetings mentioned although he used to be fashionably late and leave early before the meetings ended," he said.

Chua suggested that Lim might have "forgotten" that he had a part in passing the resolution to reject all government positions.

"If there is a need, I would not hesitate to publish all the related meeting minutes so that he could refresh his memory on what transpired during the meetings," he said.

'Lim should challenge the decision'

Yesterday, Lim was reported as saying that Chua should have the courage to admit he was wrong over the decision and should call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to review the decision.

He argued that Chua was the "key figure" behind the decision, and that no one in the MCA central committee had dared to object.

Because this move was deemed a threat by the Chinese community, MCA was rejected at the ballot box, said Lim, according to The Edge Financial Daily

Chua responded by stating that the decision was not his own, but a collective decision by the central leadership and the party delegates.

"I welcome him (Lim) to call for an EGM if he finds that the decision was a wrong one to make.

"I would like to also propose that Lim and I should have a closed-door debate on the decision not to accept government posts if Lim is so interested in this topic," he said.

Chua gets nasty

Chua also suggested that Lim was "senile" or that the latter's memory might be affected by a traumatic loss in the contest for the Selayang parliamentary seat.

"I advise Lim that before criticising the others, he should review himself as the party-appointed deputy minister.

"What had he contributed to the nation - and especially Selangor - when he had only spent most of his resources and time on one particular constituency," asked Chua.

He added that it was likely that Lim was now looking for a scapegoat because the latter, as the Selangor MCA chief, had failed to win a single seat in the state.

After losing his seat in Parliament in 2008, Lim was made a senator and later appointed as the deputy finance minister.
