‘All 13 BN parties must merge, not just three’

Only a merger of all the 13 parties in Barisan Nasional will make it truly multiracial, says Deputy Wanita MCA chief Heng Saei Kie.

KUALA BESUT: Deputy Wanita MCA chief Heng Saei Kie said all the13 Barisan Nasional component parties should merge into one, not just MCA with Gerakan and SUPP.

She said only a total BN merger would build a truly multiracial party.

“Then we will be a big family with Umno for all and MCA for all.

“It is premature to talk of a merger of MCA with Gerakan and SUPP now because the three parties have got their distinctive grassroots, party constitution and system,” she told reporters after a function here last night.

She said there were a lot of things to consider such as membership, party constitution, vision and assets.

Several leaders in MCA, Gerakan and SUPP have suggested a merger after the three parties suffered disastrous defeats in the general election in May, which saw 90% of the Chinese Malaysians voting against BN.

The MCA leader said the current political system was still non-conducive for a multiracial party.

“After we merge, can we still fight for the rights of a certain race and at the same time care of all Malaysians?

“You have Umno to fight for the Malays, likewise the MIC for Indians. But if we become a multiracial party, who is going to take care of the Chinese?” she asked.

Heng was non-committal when asked whether she would be gunning for the Wanita MCA chief’s post in the upcoming party elections, saying that she would announced it later.
