DISGUSTING! Chinese factory uses 'laundry water' to make beehoon
A rice vermicelli factory in Kunming was recently exposed for using water from a pond where people go to wash their clothes and feet, as well as throw dirty things in.
According to a Shanghaiist report, a local villager had tipped off the media and brought them to Xiao Long Tan pond, where the factory sources its water to make vermicelli.
"Lots of villagers wash their vegetables and clothes in the pond, and some kids even throw dirty things into the pond," he said.
The factory has been around for years, and its owner apparently pays to extract water from the pond.
Even though the factory has made a cursory nod to safety regulations by marking the pond with 'strictly not for washing clothes', people continue to misuse it.
"Furthermore, the people in the factory do not have high cleanliness standards, The water is stored in another pond right before it is used to make the vermicelli," added the villager.
