MB admits playing sympathy card with late rep's image

KUALA BESUT Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said today admitted that BN is using the image of former Kuala Besut state assemblyperson, the late Dr A Rahman Mokhtar, to attract "sympathy" from voters.

NONESpeaking to reporters after chairing the state cabinet meeting, Ahmad said that it would be silly not to do so.

"This is politics. What we get, we use. It would be silly if we don't use this opportunity to gain some sympathy or (use) other tactics," he said.

Ahmad said this when asked about the many posters around the constituency, reminding voters about A Rahman's past contributions and the need to show gratitude.

They can be seen at major junctions and roundabouts around the area. These posters appeared even before posters of BN’s candidate for the coming July 24 by-election Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman were put up.

PAS has been telling voters that Tengku Zaihan, despite his impressive career credentials, was not well rooted locally and will not be able to understand concerns of the grassroots.

On the other hand, PAS is marketing its candidate Azlan Yusof as a local boy with good grassroot rapport.

However, BN is attacking Azlan after his gaffe in which he said that he would hire several assistants to help him with constituency work as he has a business to run in neighbouring Kelantan.
