PAS eyes 16-16 in Kuala Besut by-election

PAS eyes 16-16 in Kuala Besut by-election
KUALA BESUT BY ELECTION PAS is hoping to make the coming Kuala Besut state by-election historic by winning it, resulting in a hung state assembly with each Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat having 16 seats.
Terengganu PAS election director Satiful Bahri Mamat said the state would score a first in history to have a hung state assembly if PAS wins the seat which it lost to BN last May.
“If the people want to see history being made and what would happen in its aftermath, they have to support PAS. If they support BN, nothing will happen.
"We hope Kuala Besut will deliver 16-16,” Satiful was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
The Kuala Besut state seat became vacant after the death of BN's Dr Abdul Rahman Mokhtar last week. The BN now has 16 seats while PR has 15. A win by PR in Kuala Besut would result in a hung state assembly and likely to resurrect debate on the role and power of the Sultan in the country's governance.
Satiful noted that the scenario had fuelled many speculations, including the possibility of giving birth to a unity government, which the Islamic party has strongly rejected.
“PAS won in 1959, 1969, 1974 when PAS was with BN, and in 1999. So, PAS had won four times there, hence the party’s strength cannot be denied,” added Satiful.
Satiful said PAS would also continue to use the 13th general election’s manifesto to campaign in Kuala Besut in view of the possibility of change of state government.
PAS has filed two election petitions challenging BN's victories in Hulu Besut and Kuala Berang state seats.
