Unofficial: BN retains Kuala Besut

The results for the Kuala Besut by-election are currently being tallied at the Besut District Council Hall and we will be bringing you the unofficial tally and quick analysis as it comes.

Unofficial tallying are being conducted by both BN and PAS.

The stakes are high for both parties, since BN had only a two-seat lead in the 32 seat state legislative assembly after the 13th general election.

NONEA loss for BN would herald an unprecedented and volatile situation while a victory with a bigger majority would further cement Umno's position as the most powerful party in the country.

LIVE REPORT:
8.13pm: Based on PAS' unofficial tally, it seems that BN has a 2,599 vote lead. One more polling station left to go.
If all things remain equal, BN will win with a bigger majority.
7.55pm: According toFacebook post by Canning state assemblyperson Wong Kah Woh, who is at PAS' counting centre, the party's unofficial tally shows that BN is leading by 2,642 votes.
7.50pm: Both BN and PAS camps are breaking fast and are not as excited as usual about the results.

The BN camp are at Demong Resort - a four-star hotel. Deputy BN chief Muhyiddin Yassin, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said and Besut Umno division chief Idris Jusoh are in attendance.

As for PAS, they are at their headquarters in Kampung Baharu. After breaking fast, some 100 PAS members conducted prayers.
