BN also upset with GE13 irregularities, says sec-gen

BN is also upset with some irregularities in the 13th general election (GE13), even though it has been returned to power, says its secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The ruling coalition is ready to reply to the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) if given the chance, Tengku Adnan told reporters in Putrajaya today.

NONEDespite the complaints of the opposition, he added, their wrongdoings needed to be pointed out.

“You know, whatever the opposition is talking, actually it is what they are doing, not us,” the MP for Putrajaya said.

While Pakatan is said to have won the popular vote in the election, it has 89 seats in Parliament compared with BN’s 133 seats under Malaysia's first-past-the-post electoral system.

Tengku Adnan,  who is also Federal Territories Minister, highlighted the case of alleged phantom voters in some constituencies as an example.
'No house on a road - but there are voters'
“After the election, I did my own analysis... and whom they have put in I don’t know... until in one house, we found that there were 19 voters,” he said.

“There is also a road where there is no house and yet there are voters... who put them in? All the opposition! What they are talking is what they are doing, okay? We are also a bit upset.”

Tengku Adnan did not name the voting constituency he was referring to.

He also said he was waiting for an invitation letter from the Bersih Tribunal that has been formed to look into electoral fraud. BN filed 21 election petitions on alleged irregularities in the May 5 general election.

“I have not seen the (Bersih Tribunal) letter. Once I have seen the letter, I will definitely reply,” he added.

Bersih formed the tribunal to look into many complaints arising from GE13.

Though the tribunal will have no legal standing, Bersih’s co-chairperson S Ambiga said it would serve as a moral force to investigate disputes arising from the conduct of last general election.
