Infant critically ill after being abused at nursery

Infant sustains multiple body injuries including internal bleeding on her brain at child-care centre.
KLANG: A six-month-old baby girl is in critical condition at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries on her body, believed to have been caused by her babysitter at a child-care centre.
Nur Sofea Insyirah Mohd Sharil suffered internal bleeding in her brain due to a fractured skull and bruises on both knees and forehead.
South Klang police district chief Mohammad Mat Yusof said Sofea was admitted to the Klang Pantai Hospital before being transferred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital last night after she lost consciousness.
Mohammad said the child’s father, Mohd Sharil Ahamad, lodged a police report against the babysitter on the same night.
“The baby had breathing difficulties when the father came to pick her up at the nursery and was sent to the Klang Pantai hospital. When her condition got worse she was transferred to the government hospital.
“We have recorded the statement from the father. The daughter was sent to the centre when she was two months’ old,” Mohammad said.
He said the baby had also sustained previous injuries at the centre.
“Previously the baby had sustained head and body injuries. The babysitter told the father that she accidentally dropped a milk bottle on the baby.
“We have detained the babysitter to help us in our investigations,” he said.
