PKR man claims Umno members were EC officers

BERSIH TRIBUNAL A PKR election director claimed that Umno members were appointed Election Commission (EC) officers during election time.

Mohd Sidek Mohd Ibrahim who was in charge of the parliamentary constituency of Lembah Pantai, said he spotted three EC workers whom he claimed were Umno members.

"I know because they were from where I was living at Taman Bukit Angkasa," he testified at the People's Tribunal in Subang Jaya this afternoon.

NONEMohd Sidek said he had complained about this to the EC person-in-charge but was told that the alleged Umno members were not active and therefore could be appointed.

"If they are Umno members, then it is what it is. They pay annual fees, so they must be active," he said.

Also taking the stand were DAP's Cameron Highlands candidate M Manogaran and PAS' Kuala Selangor candidate Dzulkefly Ahmad (right) who were defeated in the 13th general election.

Manogaran, who lost the election petition for Cameron Highlands, had lamented that the Election Court was more interested in technicalities rather than the merits of election conduct.

"After much consideration, we decided not to appeal (the election petition) as I have no confidence in the court," said Manogaran, who had to pay RM45,000 in the failed petition.

Dzulkefly had complained that there were discrepancies in the results of 17 streams out of 39 polling stations after his team scrutinised the results.

They went through several Form 14 documents, which shows the results at the stream level, pointing out that the numbers did not tally.

In total, he said based on the erroneous Form 14 documents, there were more than 1,500 missing ballots.

"Just two streams were enough to change the election results," said Dzulkefly, who lost his seat by only 460 votes.
