There’s no denying that government has increased its revenue to RM50 billion over the past five years, but unfortunately, government expenses also ballooned over the same period.
“Actually we have the money, but we don’t have the discipline to control our desire, our leaders spend the public money recklessly,” Rafizi Ramli was quoted saying by Malay tabloid Sinar Harian today.
In an economic forum yesterday, the Pandan Member of Parliament pointed out that BN government’s failure to control expenditure as the main reason behind the decrease in allocation for national development.
“The federal government continues to spend recklessly, by right the expenditure for infrastructures development, (such as) schools and others should increase, not operating cost,” Rafizi added.
The PKR strategic director said the rise of revenue over the past five years came from oil revenue.
However, government over-reliance on oil revenue has forced Petronas to contribute over RM30 billion annually since 2008.
