Malaysia’s second education minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh has asked the public to let slide the issue of pupils made to have their recess in a shower room in SK Seri Pristana.
"Malaysia is a multiracial country so we should be a forgiving society.
"If a mistake is made, we solve it the Malaysian way instead of blowing things up to the extent that it does not help anyone...We must learn to forgive and forget," he told Bahasa Malaysia daily Berita Harian.
The school in Sungai Buloh has been embroiled in several controversies since July following news the pupils were made to have their recess in the shower room during the Ramadhan month.
Headmaster Mohd Nasir Mohd Noor came under attack by angry parents but the ministry stepped in and said the headmaster had made a “mistake” and the issue was considered closed after the school canteen was reopened for use.
The parents, however, had been calling for the headmaster’s resignation but instead their children were harassed and intimidated by schoolteachers.
Idris said the issue is not racial in nature and discouraged others from viewing it as such.
"When something that is not right happens between a teacher and a pupil, and if they are from different races, we should not look at things from a racial perspective,” added Idris.
