Two wanted men shot dead in Malacca

The police killed the duo after exchanging gunshots near a hypermarket.
MALACCA: Two allegedly highly dangerous criminals were shot dead today by a group of police officers in a joint operation between the Malacca police and Bukit Aman.
The serious crime unit (D9) from Malacca and Bukit Aman killed the two men after exchanging fire with them at a road junction next to Tesco Hypermarket in Cheng.
In the 9.20am incident, police units spotted the two wanted men in a silver Perodua Myvi before approaching the car in an attempt to arrest the suspects.
However, according to a police source, one of the suspects opened fire at the police officers as they advanced to the suspect’s car.
“My team tried to stop them, I introduced myself as a police officer and I was wearing a police jacket. As I got near to the car, I heard gun shots and I saw one of the men had a gun on his hand.”
“We exchanged fire and the two men died on the spot,” the source said.
Initial investigation showed that one of the men was using a fake identification card and had 10 criminal records, including twice being detained under the Emergency Ordinance, while the other suspect had one record under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
“The first suspect, D Selvam or Raja Cella from Johor Bahru have committed various crimes in Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Terengganu. Twice arrested under EO. He is also believed to have used an ID which belonged to someone else.”
“The other guy, K Sivanesan from Negeri Sembilan is only 25-years-old, with one criminal record of drug abuse,” the source added.
The source said police also found a black pistol believed to be used during the shootout and another pistol found on the back of the driver.
