The Home Ministry "proof" that PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu is a Shiite follower is so questionable that one wonders if self-sabotage was at work, PAS central committee member Riduan Mohd Nor said.
Worse still, he said, the "evidences" are so laughable that people are now wondering if it was compiled purposely to "embarrass" Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Worse still, he said, the "evidences" are so laughable that people are now wondering if it was compiled purposely to "embarrass" Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"People are now confused. Is it a willful act to embarrass Ahmad Zahid so that he will be sued and lose in court?
"Or could it be that the Home Ministry was made to present evidences at any cost after the Umno vice president's slip of tongue at the Umno general assembly?" Riduan (right) asked in a statement.
He added that the failure to gather solid evidence is also a matter for concern as it was previously believed that the Home Ministry is the "most gruesome" agency in charge of national security.
"(The Home Ministry) has widespred communication networks, espionage teams, propaganda machines, professional think tanks and so on, who can plan and devise all sorts of things for the nation...
"But if this is their level of action then we can also be anxious about the state of national security.
"I urge all Home Ministry officials, including the espionage team to do a lot more homework before trying to trap someone with such heavy charges like this one," he said
List of darts presented
Home Minister secretary general Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi at aspecial press conference yesterday presented a list of 10 things to "prove" that the PAS deputy president is a Shiite follower.
Mohamad-better known as Mat Sabu-is alleged to be a Shiite because he, among others, admires Iraninan revolution leader Ayatollah Khomeini and makes frequent trips to Shiite-majority Iran and Lebanon.
It also cited news portal articles and an anonymous blog, 'dukeofUmno', and interviews by its officer allegedly with Mat Sabu's close friends in the past few days.
From these sources, the Home Ministry claimed that Mat Sabu prays and recites the selaway (praises to Allah and the prophet Muhammad) "the Shiite way", took "Shiite lessons" and visited a "Shiite mosque".
The special press conference was held following Ahmad Zahid's speech at the Umno general assembly endorsing action against the "PAS number two".
Ahmad Zahid refused to accuse Mat Sabu by name, leaving it to secretary general Abdul Rahim.
