Former Chief Justice Abdul Hamid Mohamad has weighed in on the ‘Allah’ row, claiming that it is a new tactic to convert Malays into Christianity.
He said this is done to divide Malays and bumiputeras in Sabah and Sarawak, after 500 years of effort failed to convert them.
“They use the Malay language in the Bible to convince Malays that their religion is the same or similar to Islam,” Abdul Hamid (left) was quoted in Malay-language dailySinar Harian today.
He also reportedly queried why didn’t church authorities in Malaysia ask that the Pope declare ‘Allah’ as the god in Roman Catholic belief, if it truly believes that ‘Allah’ is their god.
Previously, church officials such as Council of Churches secretary-general Herman Shastri had pointed out that there was no evidence of Christian proselytisation to Muslims that had ever been presented.
This is despite the Christian community being regularly demonised in Malay-language dailies as attempting to do so.
Proselytisation of other religions to Muslims is restricted by law.
