Middlemen among causes of food price hike in Sabah, says Chief Minister

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman (pic) today attributed the increasing prices of food items in Sabah in part to the role of middlemen.

Irresponsible middlemen who are greedy for more profits are burdening consumers, he said.

"The rise in food prices now is not only caused by the hike in fuel prices and electricity tariff but I can also see the elements of the middlemen in trying to reap extraordinary profits.

"They raise prices as they like, as an example, I was informed the price of tiger prawns has exceeded RM120 (a kg) and this rise is too steep," he told reporters after a meeting with Libaran Umno division branch heads today.

Musa said he would be bringing the matter up to the Prime Minister.

He wanted the role of the middlemen to be monitored to ensure they are more responsible by not selling goods at high prices. – Bernama
