The Council of Churches Malaysia (CCM) has called on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim to stop future raids by the Islamic authorities on other religions.
Its general-secretary Hermen Shastri said it is alarmed by what is happening to the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM), right at the beginning of the New Year.
“CCM believes the Islamic authorities do not have the authority in law to enter the premises of non-Muslim religious establishments for inspection, search or raid.
“The federal constitution guarantees under Article 11 (3) the right of religious communities in Malaysia to establish and maintain institutions and premises to freely profess and administer their affairs.
“CCM urges the PM, the Selangor MB, and Christian lawmakers to act immediately to stop such actions and future raids,” said Hermen in a statement.
JAIS rampage
Today it was reported that Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) had raided BSM and confiscated 321 copies of the Malay Bible, and they took the BSM chairperson Lee Min Choon for questioning.
Hermen also urged the churches and the Christian community to stay calm, and pray that the authorities will act with wisdom and sensitivity and protect the religious rights of others as provided for under the constitution. - Malay Mail
