The Selangor speaker and her deputy along with many others at the Selangor state assembly were hit by food poisoning yesterday.
Speaker Hannah Yeoh said the services of the caterer responsible has been terminated promptly after the many complaints received.
"We are satisfied with the findings of the investigation prompted by complaints from members of the media, the deputy speaker (Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. left in phto with Yeoh) and staff of the speaker's office (who were affected).
"I myself suffered food poisoning," said Yeoh when met at the session today.
"We have decided to end the services of the caterer and will engage a new caterer for the next state sitting," she added, apologisingfor the incident.
Yeoh said the caterer concerned was appointed through an open tender system and had provided meals for the state sitting since the start of the sitting on April 7.
Till yesterday there had been no such incident with the caterer.
'No critical cases'
Yeoh, who is Damansara assemblyperson, said the cases of food poisoning were not serious, and those afflicted received treatment at the state assembly's premises.
She said she was still feeling a little unwell today, but stressed that overall there were no critical cases, needing hospitalisation.
"As of 11.30am five are still in the treatment rooms," she said, comprising the state assembly and speaker's office staff.
None of the other state assemblypersons were affected.
