Wanita MCA cries foul over baby in Parliament

Wanita MCA has taken Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching to task for bringing her baby to Parliament on several occasions to highlight the lack of childcare facilities.

In a press statement today, Wanita MCA publicity chief Ivone Low said Teo's aim was to "steal the limelight" and has put unnecessary stress on her child.

"Even if there is a need for a childcare centre in Parliament, she did not have to bring her baby to the august House. Her action was only meant to steal the limelight.

"Has she thought about the pressure her infant has to endure by being exposed publicly?" asked Low.

Teo had brought her son Jinger Gan when he was four months old to Parliament in November 2012, and two-month-old Edger Gan on April 9 to highlight the fact that Parliament doesn't have childcare facilities, unlike in other countries.

The second time she brought her baby to Parliament, Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen, Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik and Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, followed suit.

Teo said she had wanted to highlight the fact that both the private and public sectors did not cater to mothers, despite women making up nearly 50 percent of the workforce, forcing many to leave their careers mid-way to tend to their families.

However, Low did not agree that the issue was part of Teo's job scope, saying that she should focus on more "pressing issues" such as PAS' plans to implement hudud in Kelantan.

"If Teo is a responsible MP, she should utilise the time to serve the people instead of bringing her baby to Parliament for publicity purposes. Such an act is a disappointment to the people.

"We urge Teo to read the 2012, 2013 and 2014 government incentive programmes for setting up childcare centres instead of shallowly demanding for a childcare centre in Parliament when the House is never a suitable place," Low added.

  1. 'Nyona pasar' ended up at the Parliament.
Lost her way while going to the market, ending up inside the Parliament ?
No (proper) sign boards or directions to the market ?
What is the ministry of 'Road Transport' doing about it ?
'Babies' ended up at the Parliament, yet again.

SEVERE 'dereliction of duties', on the part of the SECURITIES, working in the Parliament.
