ANY WONDER COPS NOT TRUSTED: Instead of grilling organisers of anti-Christian forum, authors who complained interrogated
Two people who lodged police reports against a controversial seminar on Allah and Christology held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) last month  were questioned further today by police on what exactly they were unhappy about.
They were also asked if they had seen any video recording of the seminar or had any other evidence of it as their police reports were based on media reports and articles on the seminar.
Perzeus James and Uthaya Sankar SB, who are both authors, spent 45 minutes at the Shah Alam police headquarters in Section 8 answering additional questions.
They questioned the reason for the interview today as police should be questioning the organisers of the seminar instead.
According to lawyer Annou Xavier, they were asked by Inspector Rohaini Baharum what they were dissatisfied about regarding the UiTM seminar.
Xavier also said police confirmed that investigation papers had been opened on the case.
Police are probing into the case under Sections 298 and 298A of the Penal Code, which deal with words uttered with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person.
"We were asked whether we had seen any video recording of the seminar or whether we had any other evidence of the said event," Perzeus said.
"We told the police that whatever we knew was based on media reports and published articles," he said.
Perzeus, who has published works in Tamil, said he felt “humiliated” after reading the numerous media reports on the seminar on May 6.
“If we keep quiet, we don’t know what may happen in future. I lodged this report because as a Catholic and a Malaysian, it is my responsibility to do this.”
Perzeus James  and Uthaya Sankar SB, who are both authors, spent 45 minutes at the Shah Alam police headquarters after lodging reports over a Christology seminar held at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) last month.
Uthaya said police should hold nothing back in investigating the organisers of the seminar.
He said it was unacceptable for the Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) and UiTM to co-organise such an event that raised unverified allegations against Christians in Malaysia.
Uthaya said it was shocking that two institutions that should be more responsible in their public conduct had sanctioned such deplorable behaviour as displayed at the seminar.
He said it was wrong of Mais and UiTM to have organised a “Christian-bashing” event that gave no room for Christians to give their side of the story.
Since the incident, it has been revealed that the identity of one of the speakers was a former Catholic priest turned Muslim was false.
Insan L.S. Mokoginta told 1,000-odd students at the seminar on May 6 that he was a former Catholic priest who converted to Islam in 1976.
However, The Malaysian Insider reported that the Bishops Conference of Indonesia confirmed that Mokoginta’s identity was false.
Bishops Conference of Indonesia executive secretary Father Edy Purwanto said he had no information or data on Mokoginta. -TMI
