The federal government’s lack of against fake Sabahan/Malaysian identity cards has been described by State Reform Party (Sabah Star) chief Jeffrey Kitingan as ‘treasonous’.
He asked when would the federal government take stern action to totally eradicate and resolve the problem, alleging that fake Sabah ICs and fake Sabahans are appearing all over in the peninsula.
He believed that in another 10 to 15 years, the offspring from these illegal Malaysians but born in Malaysia would be in the millions.
“By then, the problems would probably have gotten out of hand and it would be too late. By then, it would no longer be that the image of genuine Sabahans is tarnished by these illegal foreigners holding fake ICs.
"It will no longer be just about crimes being committed by these foreigners. Rather, genuine Malaysians will have their rights as lawful citizens eroded by these foreigners culminating in them running the government over time.
“Is this what the present federal government and leaders want in Malaysia? It would be treasonous if they do not take any action now,” said Jeffrey in a statement.
He was commenting on recent reports that 18 out of 22 Filipinos had pleaded guilty to possessing fake Sabah ICs while the other four had used other people’s ICs in Perak.
There was also the case of a purported Sabahan impersonating a doctor in Malacca.
“And I have said it many times before, the issue of fake Sabah ICs and fake Sabahans will continue to haunt West Malaysians as long as the federal government refuses to take the illegal issuance of dubious ICs and MyKads in Sabah seriously,” said Jeffrey.
Born in Pakistan
He recalled cases of foreigners with fake Sabah ICs and hired as security guards, including one who shot and killed a lady bank officer.
“What about the six taxi drivers in the Klang valley who earlier this year, had admitted that they were born in Pakistan but were caught in possession of ICs with the born in Sabah code?
It appears they were given letters to the National Registration Department to sort out their identification documentation and Jeffrey asked what had happened since then.
“It is the same modus operandi as disclosed at the RCI hearings. These foreigners would declare that they were ‘born again’ in Sabah and then given ICs, many of them hand-delivered, while genuine natives would have to trek from their remote villages to the nearest JPN office to get their ICs.
“These fake ICs are just the tip of the iceberg as there could be up to 1.5 million dubious ICs that were issued in Sabah. Insider sources say that dubious IC issuance is still going on,” he alleged.
