Malaysians, especially Muslims, should reject Perkasa’s “chop head” remark because it reflects thinking that is “uncivilised”, said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
“It is clear that Perkasa’s threat is not beneficial and instead gives a negative perception towards Islam, which actually emphasises on brotherhood (persaudaraan), justice, harmony, mutual respect, and moderation,” he said in a statement today.
He urged all quarters to stop exploiting Selangor’s Bible issue for personal or political mileage, and respect the Selangor Sultan’s statement that the matter should be referred to the courts.
During a rally outside one of the Selangor sultan’s palaces yesterday, Perkasa information chief Ruslan Kassim (right) had threatened to behead those who ridicule Islam or the sultan.
The rally was held in support of Selangor Islamic Affairs Council’s (Mais) refusal to return the 321 copies of the Bible seized by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM).
“If they continue to ridicule the religion and the sultan, we will chop off their heads.
“It is better they get lost, better they die, better they don’t live in this country than be a disease, a virus and a parasite on our religion, race and country,” he said outside Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam.
Khalid said the Selangor state government regrets the statement, and said it is harmful to the interracial and interfaith harmony in Malaysia, especially in the state.
