The syura council, comprising ulamas, met after the central committee’s meeting earlier today, and decided that party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has final say in all matters concerning the party’s interest, Harakahdaily reported this evening.
In a statement, the syura council noted that the PAS constitution gave the party president responsibility over all party matters.
It also noted other provisions in the party constitution that obliged the central committee to abide by and execute the orders of the party president.
Because of this, the council called on all PAS members and supporters to cease speculating on the party’s role in the Selangor menteri besar crisis and to stop negative speculation that could jeopardise the struggle of Islam, its statement said.
The council’s statement comes as PAS leaders appear to be at odds among themselves over the naming of candidates to be the new Selangor menteri besar.
The central committee had on August 17, decided to nominate both PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Azmin Ali.
The central committee meeting today affirmed that decision, despite Hadi having submitted three other names to the Selangor palace separately. One of those names included a PAS assemblyman.
Today, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said that the final decision should be up to the Sultan of Selangor, while deputy president Mohamad Sabu said the party would reject any appointment of a PAS Selangor assemblyman as the new menteri besar.
